Ajka power plant

On December 28, 2017, Veolia Energia Magyarország Zrt. acquired the majority ownership of Bakonyi Erőmű Zrt. as a long-term professional investment. The Ajka power plant, which produces heat and electricity as well as industrial steam, fits well into Veolia's power plant portfolio.

The power plant currently produces steam for the alumina plant and the Ajka district heating network primarily using biomass - wood chips and agricultural by-products - and to a lesser extent coal, and generates 320 thousand megawatt-hours of electricity annually. The power plant, with 131.6 MW electrical capacity and 360 MW installed nominal heat capacity, provides employment for a total of 285 people, making it one of Ajka's largest employers.

In the coming period, our specialists will prepare various models to determine the necessary investments and improve the environmental performance indicators of the Ajka power plant, so that we can say it is worthwhile to replace individual heating solutions and smoking chimneys with clean, environmentally friendly district heating.
