By practicing our vocation as reflected in our motto, “Resourcing the world,” and as detailed in OUR PURPOSE (RAISON D’ÊTRE), we have unequivocally affirmed our commitment—now for 160 years—to have a positive impact on how our planet functions. This commitment has never been as closely aligned with the expectations and needs of our stakeholders as it is today. Thanks to previous development plans that have placed our company on a profitable, long-term growth trajectory, Veolia has never been better prepared to strengthen and expand its activities.
Four strategic directions at Veolia
1. GOVERNANCE THROUGH MULTI-LAYERED, COMPLEX PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Veolia devotes equal attention to different yet complementary performance categories—economic and financial, commercial, social, societal, and environmental performance—which together create a positive cycle. Veolia is committed to 18 specific indicators covering all five dimensions of its performance. Achievement of these objectives will be regularly audited and measured by an independent organization.
2. RESPONDING TO THE MOST DEMANDING CHALLENGES
We are accelerating the development of our most complex activities serving ecological transformation, where our expertise is unique and sets us apart from our competitors.
- Activities aimed at preventing and remediating pollution: treatment of hazardous waste; removal of contaminants from industrial soil and water;
- Activities focused on the efficient use of critical resources and combating climate change: services that improve energy efficiency for industrial clients and buildings; plastics recycling and the production of SRF fuels; recovery/use of biowaste; industrial ecology offerings such as the circular economy model;
- Climate change adaptation solutions, such as wastewater reuse or seawater desalination.
3. RETHINKING OUR BUSINESS ACTIVITIES
We are strengthening and rethinking our activities to increase their impact and efficiency:
- We are expanding our services related to water supply and wastewater treatment (innovative solutions for sludge recovery/valorization, comprehensive solutions to improve access to drinking water), and we are rethinking our operating and development approaches together with stakeholders (governance, customer relations);
- We are transforming the collection of non-hazardous industrial waste, for example through new digital services, and introducing a new, differentiated pricing policy based on the quality of the raw materials;
- We are modernizing and diversifying our activities related to energy networks: converting coal-fired district heating networks to green energy; launching new electricity-related services; and developing mini district heating and cooling networks.
4. INNOVATIVE IDEAS, SOLUTIONS FOR THE FUTURE
We are developing innovative solutions to anticipate and address future demands and needs. We are seeking answers in the following areas:
- Health protection and pollutant filtration: assessing and improving indoor air quality; treating micro-pollutants found in water;
- New material loops: recycling e-waste and electric vehicle batteries; CO2 capture and utilization; developing eco-design concepts with industrial partners;
- Food chain: bioconversion of organic waste into biological soil improvers or animal feed; urban agriculture solutions; convenient access to drinking water and improving the taste of drinking water;
- Adapting to the impacts of climate change: crisis management (using our mobile equipment; preventing floods and drought), water reuse, flood prevention, creating urban cooling islands;
- New energy services: electrical flexibility and demand response (virtual power plant, energy storage), microgrid structures;
- New digital services: control centers for monitoring wastewater treatment plants and facilities; an online waste-management platform; using artificial intelligence in waste sorting; platforms aimed at supporting social entrepreneurs.
