Over 100 Employees Participated in Veolia's First Corporate Occupational Safety Day
On September 18, Veolia organized its first-ever Occupational Safety Day at the Kispest Power Plant, bringing together more than 100 employees for a day of learning, skill-building, and team bonding in a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. The event was not just about competition but also focused on education, practical training, and community building. A total of 16 teams, each comprising six members, competed in various safety challenges, ranging from first aid to fire protection drills.
Bringing Teams Together Across the Country
The event saw participation from 15 subsidiaries and sites across Hungary, each with a six-member team. Joining the competition were representatives from the Nyíregyháza Power Plant, the Debrecen Power Plant, Veolia Mélyépítő Magyarország Kft., VWS, Pannon-Biomassza Logistics and Laboratory, the Oroszlány Power Plant, Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt., Bakony Power Plant, Bakony District Heating (alongside its power plant), Dorog-Promtávhő, BERT’s Kispest and Újpest Power Plants, Szeged Waterworks, and a mixed team from District Heating. Even Veolia’s management formed a competing team, bringing the total to 16 teams.
“Learn and Practice”
The event was opened by György Palkó, Veolia Hungary’s Country Director, who emphasized the company’s commitment to workplace safety. He highlighted the importance of adhering to Veolia’s 12-point Life-Saving Rules, which ensure that every employee can return home safely and injury-free after each workday. This Occupational Safety Day was part of the broader Occupational Safety Week initiative and aimed to offer participants a supervised environment to deepen their knowledge of workplace safety through engaging tools and practical activities.
“The 10th Occupational Safety Week is a special milestone, and we wanted to introduce something new to Veolia’s culture. Today’s competition is more than just a contest—it’s about learning, preparing, practicing, coming together, and enjoying this wonderful day while also taking care of one another,” György Palkó remarked.
A Culture of Safety
Following Palkó’s speech, Zsolt Humenyik, Veolia’s Regional Director for Budapest, took the stage to underline the company's continuous efforts in workplace safety. He shared that while safety initiatives often require significant effort and resources, their results are not always immediately visible. Over the past five years, the group has maintained accident-free operations across all statistics, setting a benchmark for continued vigilance and care for the safety and well-being of all employees.
The day was a remarkable success, marking the start of what is expected to become a yearly tradition, as Veolia strengthens its commitment to fostering a safe and supportive work environment.
