Kőbánya power plant

The scope of activity of the power plant, established with an investment of more than HUF 3 billion, includes the supply of steam to 5 industrial customers, including the largest user Gedeon Richter Nyrt., and the sale of electricity produced in conjunction with heat. The power plant with a thermal output of 65.7 MW and an electrical output of 10.4 MW enables the annual production of approximately 560,000 MWh of heat and 89,500 MWh of electricity. In addition to the heating equipment, low- and high-voltage electrical systems, mechanical and other service equipment, as well as a natural gas pressurization station were also installed in the power plant.

Thanks to the modern technologies used, the new facility largely fulfills the strict environmental protection regulations applicable to it: this cogeneration unit emits 31,500 tons less CO2 per year than if heat and electricity generating units with the same performance were installed separately .

2016 was a year of model change in the operation of Kőbányahő Kft., a member of the Veolia group of companies. Due to the unfavorable development of the electricity market conditions, Kőbányahő Kft. replaced one of its gas turbines and the heat recovery boiler unit connected to it by installing a new steam boiler. This has improved energy efficiency and financial profitability. With the installation of the new steam boiler, the combined heat and electricity production in small power plants was replaced by the purely heat production model. From 2019, more profitable conditions emerged again in the combined electricity production market, so the power plant's electricity production increased year by year. In the future, our goal is still to maintain energy-efficient and environmentally friendly operation, with which we can ensure that the current 5 contracted industrial consumers (Richter Gedeon Nyrt., Ceva-Phylaxia Zrt., Xellia Kft., MÁV FKG Gépjavító Kft., Ferencvárosi Torna Club) are competitive and safe heat supply and the long-term business profitability of Kőbányahő Kft.
