From 2025, Veolia Will Provide District Heating in Záhony

Veolia Energia Magyarország Zrt., one of the country’s leading utility providers, has successfully won the right to operate the district heating network of the city of Záhony within the framework of a public procurement procedure, which is valid for the next 25 years.

The agreement was signed on May 30, 2024, and the concession company established for this purpose, ZÁHONYHŐ Kft., began operations on January 1, 2025.

Veolia is one of Hungary's leading utility companies, which has been providing energy services to industrial, public institution, and residential customers for over 30 years, generating highly efficient electricity and heat at 12 large power plants and 35 smaller plants. In addition, it plays a leading role in the use of renewable energy sources, primarily biomass, on the domestic market.

In Záhony, in accordance with legal requirements, the company established a concession company under the name ZÁHONYHŐ Kft. to provide district heating services, which from January 1, 2025, took over the tasks and customer base of the previous municipal service provider, Záhonyi Hőtermelő és Távhőszolgáltató Kft. The new company currently provides heating and domestic hot water services to 524 residential users, 3 separately managed institutions, and 19 other consumers.

The change of service provider does not affect prices, as residential district heating services will remain regulated. From February 2025, users of ZÁHONYHŐ Kft. will receive their bills exclusively from the new provider, both for the basic fee and for the heat fee. The previous provider prepared a final invoice on December 31, 2024, which consumers received in January and which must be settled with Záhonyi Hőtermelő és Távhőszolgáltató Kft. However, from January 1, 2025, the new provider will issue the current monthly invoices.

Users can find detailed information about the change of provider and any tasks they may have in the district heating newsletter sent to them.

Veolia’s long-term goal is to operate district heating services efficiently and in the most environmentally friendly way possible, and to ensure continuous and reliable supply for all its customers.
