For the fifth time, the Circular Economy blog – with the support of Veolia – organized its sustainability prize game on the occasion of Earth Day. This year, players could once again test their knowledge in the fields of environmental protection, sustainability, and the circular economy. The quiz, which has almost become a tradition, once again offered a great opportunity for learning: participants could expand their environmental knowledge in a playful way and recognize the important role their conscious decisions play in everyday life.
This year, more than 200 people completed the 15-question quiz. The correct answers could be found in previous articles of the Circular Economy blog, so those who regularly read the blog had an advantage in the competition.
The most confidently answered questions
Almost every participant knew the correct answer to certain questions, which clearly shows that some sustainability topics have already become deeply ingrained in public consciousness. For example, 96.8% of respondents correctly identified the use of refillable shampoo bottles as one of the simplest ways to reduce plastic waste.
A similarly popular question concerned sustainable laundry habits and asked which items of clothing should be washed daily. The result was not surprising: 98.6% knew that socks and underwear require frequent cleaning for hygiene reasons.
Participants also answered the question about regenerative agriculture with confidence: 89.8% correctly indicated that these methods do not use intensive fertilizers and pesticides, thus providing a more sustainable alternative to traditional agricultural practices.
Challenging questions
Of course, there were also puzzles that caused more difficulty. One of the hardest questions was about how much the length of the day increased due to ice melting between 1900 and 2000. 65.3% of respondents got the correct answer – an increase between 0.3 and 1.0 milliseconds.
Another challenge was the question about the energy demand of AI technology. 61.3% of participants knew that the main energy-intensive factors in developing artificial intelligence are the long training periods and complex computational tasks.
The biggest challenge, however, was the question about effectively addressing Generation Z regarding climate change. Only 54.6% of respondents correctly identified that emotional impact and the sense of threat are the two factors that most strongly influence younger generations.
Winners don’t leave empty-handed!
As in previous years, this year three lucky winners were drawn from those who answered all questions flawlessly. They won a special gift package containing the following environmentally friendly prizes:
Terra Futura board game, which helps you learn about the workings of a sustainable economy in a playful way,
The Great Book of Ecology, which presents the fundamental connections of our planet’s functioning,
LED bulb with flower decoration, offering an energy-saving lighting option,
Illuminated globe keychain, which is both spectacular and practical,
Veolia branded gifts.
If you didn’t manage to complete the quiz perfectly this year, there’s no need to worry! The Circular Economy blog continues to offer exciting sustainability content for those interested. It’s also worth following our Facebook page, where we share fresh environmental news week by week.
