Fővárosi Csatornázási Művek Zrt.

In 1997, the consortium of Veolia Víz Zrt. and Berlinwasser, having won the announced international tender, bought the share package consisting of 25%+1 shares of Fővárosi Csatornázási Művek Zrt. from the Capital City Municipality. The company is Hungary's largest environmental protection public service company, whose most important activity is the drainage and treatment of sewage and rainwater, as well as the operation of Budapest's flood and domestic water protection system. Apart from Budapest, Fővárosi Csatornázási Művek Zrt. also provides services in Budaörs and Nagytarcsa as a public interest operator. It also receives wastewater from several other settlements, including Nagykovácsi, Budaörs, Kerepestarcsa, Gyál, Vecsés, Üllő, Üröm, Budakalász, Dunakeszi, Csömör and Szigetszentmiklós.

The most important results of the company:

  • Thanks to the improvements, the Wastewater Treatment Plant in North-Pest and South-Pest can biologically clean twice the previous amount, 51% of the capital's wastewater.
  • The plants produce biogas from sewage sludge, and from that, electrical and thermal energy, thanks to which the plants are almost completely self-sufficient.
  • Additional renewable energy is produced by receiving and processing waste with a high organic matter content at the wastewater treatment plants.
  • The country's most modern biological air filtration system was implemented at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in North-Pest.
  • By doubling the stormwater reservoir capacity of the South-Pest Wastewater Treatment Plant, it is possible to store and then clean 7,000 m3 of rainwater beyond the plant's daily capacity.
