Pécs power plant

Veolia Energia Magyarország Zrt. acquired 99.94 percent of Pannonpower's shares in 2007. With this transaction, Veolia also gained control over the companies belonging to Pannonpower (including Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt., PANNONGREEN Kft., Pannon-Hő Kft., and Pannon-Biomassza Kft.).

Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt. operates and maintains the blocks of the Pécs power plant. As a result of the fuel conversion that took place between 2004 and 2013, this currently means operating two biomass-fired units: a 49.9 MW electrical capacity wood chip-fired boiler and a 35 MW electrical capacity boiler fired with baled soft-stem agricultural by-products. In addition, Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt. ensures that the gas boilers, which have been functioning as reserves since 2013, are kept in operational condition. Through its operations, Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt. supplies district heat to approximately 31,500 district-heated apartments and 460 other consumers (e.g., hospitals, schools, shopping centers, etc.).

Pannon-Biomassza Energetikai és Általános Kereskedelmi Kft. was established in 2001 to perform the commercial and logistics tasks of the Pannonpower Group. Its main tasks are the procurement of biomass fuel for the Group, the procurement and storage of materials and parts necessary for the power plant's operation, and the sale of bio-ash.

PANNONGREEN Kft. operates Central Europe's largest biomass-fired power plant block. The 49.9 MWe installed electrical capacity fluidized bed boiler is fired with wood chips, wood industry and agricultural by-products, thereby contributing to sustainable energy management and making the city of Pécs more livable. PANNONGREEN Kft. sells 325-330 GWh of electricity and 350-400 TJ of heat energy annually.

Pannon-Hő Kft. was established by the group in 2005 with the aim of managing the construction and subsequent operation of the 35 MW electrical capacity block utilizing baled soft-stem agricultural by-products – i.e., renewable energy sources – as an independent project company from the outset. Today, the company's task is combined electricity and heat generation with the second biomass boiler commissioned in 2013. Pannon-Hő Kft. produces 35-40% of the Pécs power plant's total electricity output and approximately 60% of the city's total district heating demand. It sells 190-200 GWh of electricity and 900-1000 TJ of heat annually.
