Nearly 2,800 Visitors at the Szeged Water Tower on World Water Day
Szeged - a víz ünnepének központja

This spring, Szegedi Vízmű Zrt. once again opened the doors of the Szent István Square water tower to the public on the occasion of World Water Day. During the three-day event, nearly 2,800 visitors participated in programs that highlighted the value of water and the importance of sustainable water use.

Experience-Based Learning for All Ages

On Friday, March 20–22, the event primarily welcomed groups of schoolchildren and kindergarteners, who were introduced to the special properties of water through playful and spectacular experiments.

Over the weekend, families and individual visitors could also access the water tower, where interactive and educational programs (awareness-raising short films, informational panels, physical experiments, educational materials about drinking water and wastewater treatment) as well as the unique view of Szeged from the top of the tower awaited them.

Interactive Solutions and New Program Elements

This year’s event placed special emphasis on experiential learning. Younger children could discover the everyday role of water through creative games, while older age groups could deepen their knowledge using digital tools.

One of the event’s main features was an interactive application developed in cooperation with EVOSOFT, which presented the water supply system and the journey of water in a playful way. The digital map displayed on a touchscreen guided participants from the headquarters of Szegedi Vízmű Zrt. all the way to the water tower, making the adventure more exciting with water-themed quiz questions along the way. The visitor experience was further enhanced by photo points, thematic installations, and various educational demonstrations.

The Future of Water Through the Eyes of Youth

In connection with the event, a photo competition encouraged students to creatively reflect on issues of climate change and conscious water use. The exhibition compiled from the submitted works could also be viewed at the venue.

Community Experience and Partnerships

Szeged Zoo also joined the event, enriching it with playful and educational programs, once again proving that community experiences and education are effective tools in bringing the message of water protection and sustainability closer to broader segments of society.
