Action for Sustainability and Resource Preservation

On the occasion of World Environment Day, it becomes even more important to address sustainability, environmental protection, and the safeguarding of our planet.

For Veolia, the protection of our environment and resources is also of paramount importance. This commitment is reflected, among other things, in its pledge in the field of environmental safety as well as in the company’s Green Up strategy, which extends until 2027.

The goal of World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, is to draw the attention of society and companies to the preservation of the planet’s ecosystem. Each year, the initiative focuses on a specific central theme, thereby emphasizing the importance of actions related to sustainability and environmental protection. In 2026, the theme will be “Climate Action,” that is, action against climate change.

Standing up for global environmental security

For more than 170 years, Veolia has been dedicated to anticipating and proactively addressing the world’s critical environmental challenges. Today, adapting to ecological transformation is no longer just a choice, but a fundamental strategic requirement for economic growth, social well-being, and the preservation of human health. The company’s daily operations and continuous innovation aim to reliably provide communities with the essential resources for life, including clean water, energy, and critical mineral raw materials.

In the spirit of shared responsibility for environmental security, particularly water security, on April 9, 2026, 34 high-ranking international representatives, together with Veolia’s Executive Committee, officially pledged to guarantee environmental security. Reliable access to water, energy, and waste management services not only ensures the smooth operation of the economy and the society’s strategic resilience but also directly impacts our health and quality of life.

Increasing pollution, extreme weather events, growing water scarcity, and supply chain limitations clearly demonstrate that Veolia’s activities are now more important and urgent than ever. In today’s period burdened by geopolitical challenges and uncertainties, guaranteeing environmental security is becoming an increasingly important factor for survival and independence.

Green Up strategy: affordable, replicable solutions

The primary goal of Veolia’s “Green Up” strategic program for the period 2024–2027 is for the company to become a key player in ecological transformation, the “missing link” for it. To create a more sustainable future, the company does not only accelerate the application of existing, proven technologies and solutions, but also continuously innovates to develop the tools for the future. Relying on its expertise in water, energy, and waste management, Veolia aims to decarbonize, depollute, and regenerate resources through three growth-boosting measures, supported by a €2 billion investment program.

To turn complex environmental problems into measurable and workable solutions, Veolia’s forward-looking strategy focuses on three main areas. These include ensuring critical resources – especially water; developing a circular economy based on resources extracted from local waste; and effectively reducing and managing pollution, which serves not only health protection but also the long-term assurance of industrial operating conditions.

Nothing demonstrates better the success of Veolia’s efforts than the “A” rating it received in 2025 in “Climate Friendly” and “Water Friendly” categories from CDP. With this recognition, the group joined the ranks of globally acknowledged environmentally friendly companies, further strengthening its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.
