On December 28, 2017, the majority ownership of Bakonyi Erőmű Zrt. was purchased by Veolia Energia Magyarország Zrt. for long-term professional investment purposes. The Ajka power plant, which produces heat and electricity, fits well into Veolia's power plant portfolio.
The power plant currently produces steam for the district heating network in Ajka using mostly biomass – wood chips and agricultural by-products – and to a lesser extent using other fuels. It produces 320,000 MWh of electricity annually. The power plant with 131.6 MW of electricity and 380 MW of installed nominal heat output provides work for a total of 170 people, making it one of the largest employers in Ajka.
In the next period, our specialists will prepare various models to determine the necessary investments, and we will sort out the environmental protection indicators of the Ajka power plant. Their goal is to be able to say that it is worthwhile to replace individual heating solutions and smoking chimneys with clean and environmentally friendly district heating.
